History Of Fisher Price Toys
In 1930 during the great depression when unemployment was at its highest and the economic state of the US was really at its worst in history. Three people chose to go ahead and take chance and begin a toy company that would grow to be one of the most successful and largest toy companies in history.
Herman Fisher had been selling and advertising for a manufacturer in New York that produced games. Irving Price had just retired from a major chain store that sold a number of products. Helen Schelle had expertise in running a toy store. These three people decided to use their collective expertise and start the Fisher-Price toy company on October 1st, 1930 in East Aurora, NY with 15 employees.
The First Fisher Price Toys
Metal push-pull toys were one of the first line of toys for Fisher Price, created especially for toddlers. Margaret Price, Mr. Price's wife helped to create the very first toys because they had been based upon characters from her books. A few of these figures included Dr. Doodle, Granny Doodle and a duck dressed in a top hat and tuxedo. Margaret was the very first Art Director at Fisher Price and she designed colorful, artistic and detailed lithographic labels for the Fisher Price toys that had really appealed to kids.
In 1931, Fisher-Price had a line of 16 wooden toys they brought to the American International Toy Fair in New York. Presenting their toys at this fair made Fisher Price very successful and Dr. Doodle became the very first toy that was sold by Fisher Price in 1931.

The Birth Of Plastic Fisher Price Toys
In the early 1950s, Fisher Price discovered that utilizing plastic in making parts of their toys served to keep the decorations lasting longer, as well as allowed for brighter colors to be used in making toys. The very first toy that Fisher Price made in plastic was the Buzzy Bee, and by the end of the 1950s, there were 39 toys Fisher Price toys made from plastic.
